Kennel Cough Vaccine

Kennel cough vaccine (Bordetella bronchiseptica) is the additional vaccination most UK boarding kennels require beyond the core vaccinations of distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, and leptospirosis. It must usually be given at least 7–14 days before boarding.

Kennel cough spreads easily wherever dogs congregate, so kennels routinely refuse to accept dogs without proof of a recent vaccination. Some operators accept the intranasal vaccine (given as nose drops); others require the injectable.

Check each kennel’s policy when booking — vaccination requirements and the minimum lead-time vary. Some operators also require titer test results or a vet sign-off for older dogs.

Home boarders typically require the same core vaccinations as kennels but are more flexible on kennel cough, since their environment is lower-risk.
