Data we publish about licensed operators
Our directory aggregates information drawn from UK council Animal Activity Licensing (AAL) registers, which councils are directed to make publicly available under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 and equivalent devolved legislation. For each operator we may publish:
- Trading name, and website where the operator publishes it for customer acquisition.
- Town and outward postcode (e.g. "OX1") for residential/home-boarding addresses — never the full street address unless the operator has confirmed it via the claim process.
- Licence status, expiry date, star rating, issuing local authority, source URL, and date last verified.
- Published prices observed on the operator's public website, with the observation date.
- Aggregate review summaries from public review platforms (e.g. Google, Trustpilot) where permitted under the platform's terms.
Lawful basis for processing operator data
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We have conducted a Legitimate Interests Assessment (LIA), a redacted summary of which is available on request.
The purpose of processing is consumer transparency: the data is fragmented across ~340 local authorities in inconsistent formats; our aggregation makes publicly-available licensing information practically accessible for consumers choosing a regulated service provider for their pet.
We balance this against the interests of operators. Residential address precision is restricted by default (town + outward postcode only). Operators can further restrict display through the claim process.
Visitor analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a cookie-less analytics service. No personal data leaves your browser; no cross-site tracking; no advertising profile. No consent banner is required for analytics alone.
If we add display advertising (Mediavine/Raptive), we will implement a compliant cookie management platform and update this notice.
Affiliate links
When you click an affiliate link (e.g. to Rover or Pawshake), we record the click for internal analytics — specifically the operator ID, a hashed page path, and the partner name. No personal data is recorded. The affiliate partner may set their own cookies when you land on their site; see their privacy notice.
Operator claim process
If you submit a claim for your operator profile, we collect your business email address to verify your identity. This is processed on the basis of legitimate interests (verifying the authenticity of a claim to a public record). Your email is not published and is not used for marketing without your explicit consent.
Operator email and PECR
Any marketing email to operators (newsletter, Featured tier marketing) is sent only with prior opt-in consent (PECR soft opt-in applies where applicable). Every email contains an easy unsubscribe link. Consent records are retained for 6 years.
Data retention
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Source snapshots (licence registers) | 12 months unless legal hold |
| Public claims (operator data) | While current + audit history indefinitely |
| Correction requests | 6 years (limitation period) |
| Claim requests (email verification) | 6 years |
| Admin audit log | 6 years |
| Click analytics (outbound clicks) | 12 months |
| Operator consent records (PECR) | 6 years |
