Frequently asked questions
Will I be paid?
You will receive a daily allowance starting from £16.50 per day.
What if the dog becomes ill?
PetStay or the carer would endeavour to contact the owner or emergency contact. The owner or emergency contact would be liable for any veterinary expenses incurred.
What about walking the dogs?
All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. Routines, including the number and length of walks, will be discussed at the meeting. Dogs are only ever walked on a lead.
Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?
Yes, each dog MUST have up to date vaccinations, be wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of vaccinations will be brought to the meeting.
Do I have to provide the food?
No, the owner will bring any food or treats for the duration of the stay. Toys, bedding, medication and leads will also be brought.
How many dogs can I look after?
The service is one-to-one, so only dogs from the same household stay with you. You can take up to three dogs from the same household, but you choose what you're happy with.
How are your carers vetted?
If you meet requirements, PetStay will visit your home to check garden security, explain procedures, and show guidelines. If suitable, references are obtained and public liability insurance is arranged.
What are the requirements of becoming a carer?
You must be a genuine dog lover, have experience of looking after dogs, be home during the day, have a secure garden, and agree to abide by PetStay guidelines. You are allowed to have your own dog as long as it gets on with other dogs.
