Frequently asked questions
Will I be paid?
You will receive a daily allowance starting from £18 per day.
What if the dog becomes ill?
You would endeavour to contact the owner or emergency contact. The owner or emergency contact would be liable for any veterinary expenses incurred.
What about walking the dogs?
All dogs should be taken out each day for walks. Routines and walk length are discussed at the owner meeting. Dogs are only ever walked on a lead.
Does the dog/s have to be vaccinated?
Yes, each dog must have up to date vaccinations, be wormed and treated for fleas. Proof of vaccinations is brought to the meeting.
Do I have to provide the food?
No, the owner brings any food or treats for the stay. Toys, bedding, medication and leads are also brought by the owner.
How many dogs can I look after?
The service is one-to-one basis with dogs from the same household only. You may take up to three dogs from one household, but you choose what you're happy with.
How are your carers vetted?
If you meet requirements, PetStay visits your home to check garden security, explain procedures, and show guidelines. If suitable, they follow up references and arrange public liability insurance for you.
What are the requirements of becoming a carer?
You must be a genuine dog lover with experience of looking after dogs. You need to be home during the day with plenty of time for dogs. You must have a secure garden and agree to PetStay guidelines. You may have your own dog if it gets on with others.
