Methodology
Prices are sourced from operator-published websites only. We use the minimum advertised price for each service type as the observation unit. Percentiles are calculated usingpercentile_cont in Postgres over approved price observations for publishable operators (those with a valid licence verified via a council register).
Limitations
- Sample sizes vary by service type — day care and extra-dog rates are sparser than overnight rates.
- Prices reflect published rates, not actual transaction prices.
- We do not capture seasonal pricing variation in this index.
- VAT treatment varies by operator — we record prices as published.
